When making a reservation with the Egyptian Austrian Travel Company (EATC), passangers have the choice of three Nile cruise ships. All of EATC’s three beautifully crafted Nile cruise ships are designed after traditional Dahabiyas. Dahabiyas – or Dahabeyas – were the elegant sailing boats the sultans and pashas used to sail the Nile on in the 18th and 19th century.
The term Dahabiya, meaning „the golden one“, originates from the Arabian word Dahab: Like the pharaos, the ancient predecessors of today’s Nile cruise ships were painted golden to enhance their grandeur . Traditional Nile cruise ships were also very popular with the first tourists who traveled Egypt more than hundred years ago. The Dahabiya Nile cruise ships offer the unique opportunity to explore the cities and temples along the Nile and to discover the beauty of Egypt’s lifeline.
The Nile cruise ships of the Egyptian Austrian Travel Company include the Dahabiya Amoura, Dahabiya Donia and Dahabiya Judi. All three Nile cruise ships sail the Nile between Esna and Aswan and feature similar amenities.
Passengers of the Amoura can relax on her 29-metre sundeck (part of which is covered by a canvas awning) with comfortable tables and chairs, a cosy oriental-style seating area and sunloungers. There is also a 27 m² air conditioned lounge with a comfortable seating area, satellite TV, Internet access, DVDs, books and a bar.
The Donia features 6 double cabines, each approx. 13 m², equipped with two single beds or one double bed, air conditioning, a wardrobe and a nightstand, a big window (can be opened), a bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. There is also a suite (approx. 21 m² groß) with one double bed, privat balcony, air conditioning, a wardrobe, a nightstand, shower, sink and toilet. The Dahabeya Donia features 4 double cabins, each approx. 11,25 m², with two single beds or one double, air conditioning, TV, telephone, a wardrobe and a bedside table, storage space under the bed for suitcase and travel bags, windows with view of the Nile, a shower, sink and toilet. There is also a suite (extra charge) with a double bed, a privat lounge with private terrace overlooking the Nile, writing desk, wardrobe and nightstand, shower, sink and toilet. Of the three Nile cruise ships, the Dahabiya Judi with her 8 double cabins (circa 14 m² each) can accommodate the most passengers. The cabins feature two single or one double bed, air conditioning, a wardrobe and a nightstand, a big window (can be opened), shower, sink and toilet. Like the other boats, the Judi also offers a suite (circa 21 m²) with a double bed, private balkony/terrace, wardrobe, nightstand, shower, sink and toilet.
Each Nile cruise ships features a fully equipped galley and comes with a small dinghy that tows the Nile cruise ships upstream during a lull in the wind. EATC’s Nile cruise ships offer all the luxury passengers travelling on a Nile cruise could wish for. Enjoy the beauty of the Nile and the horizon during the comfortable sailing trip onboard the Nile cruise ships. A Nile cruise onboard one of our traditional Nile cruise ships is like a nostalgic journey that brings back to life the grandeur and elegance of centuries gone by.
